Thin glass

Thin glass forming processes

Isothermal and non-isothermal thin glass forming

Vitrum Technologies’s forming processes provide significant cost and scale advantages in mass production over traditional manufacturing processes such as grinding and polishing.

In isothermal forming processes, both the glass blank and the forming tool maintain the same temperature throughout the process.

In non-isothermal forming processes, however, the glass has a different temperature than the forming tool. This is achieved by external heating and cooling equipment in which the glass is preheated or annealed. This separation allows cost-optimized processes to be designed.

Vitrum Technologies offers customized solutions for your application for both process variants.

Gravity slumping

With gravity slumping, thin glass is heated and reshaped under its own weight.

Vacuum assisted slumping

With vacuum assisted slumping, thin glass is formed by its own weight and the application of a vacuum.

Deep drawing

With deep drawing, higher degrees of deformation can be achieved compared to slumping.
